A long, long time ago — in the 12th century, to be exact — there was a large city of 20,000 people situated next to the Mississippi River. Much of this unnamed city remains a mystery, with its remnants only cropping up in the past half-century.
Thanks to this article in Salon.com, I now know what will be the next book on my nightstand: Timothy Pauketat’s “Cahokia: Ancient America’s Great City on the Mississippi.”
This is the type of book I find myself drawn to.
