The Horror, The Horror!
I just can’t get over John Koblin’s piece in the New York Observer this week, which looks at how staffers at Condé Nast are panicking, given how the economy is making executives everywhere take a deeper look at how they do business.
Two passages that stand out, from anonymous employees:
“At the salad bar, you’re allowed one protein and generally they have five proteins listed. But the only proteins they have now are tofu and chicken! There’s no shrimp! I don’t think there’s any more shrimp there.”
and:
“I just found out today that we are on our last batch of Poland Spring. We won’t have any more after this. We have to start drinking tap water.”
Seriously? Let me sarcastically say that I feel their exquisite pain.
